Housing Choice Voucher Program Overview
The Hammond Housing Authority's Housing Choice Voucher Program
(formerly known as Section 8) administers 816 vouchers in the Hammond area.
In September 2009,
and October 2011, the application process was opened. Because of the need to assist low-income families, the wait
can be lengthy before eligible families are selected from the waiting list. All families selected from the waiting list must be income eligible.
All family members 18 years of age and older must pass a criminal background check. Other screening criteria may also
apply.

Billing
Incoming Portability
Hammond Housing Authority is billing, not absorbing, incoming
portable vouchers. (All incoming portable clients must find a unit in the City of Hammond only.)
Outgoing Portability
Current participants may transfer to another Housing Authority
in the United States after one (1) year of assistance. Applicants, who lived in Hammond
at the time of their application, may transfer to another Housing Authority in the United States when they initially
receive their voucher.
For current participants and applicants:
Changes must be reported IN WRITING within ten (10)
days of the change. Changes will not be accepted via fax or e-mail!
