Public Housing Pre-Applications for Columbia Center and Turner Park are CLOSED until further notice.


Public Housing Pre-Applications for the Hubert Humphrey Building are now being accepted.  Applicants must be near elderly (50+) and/or disabled to qualify.  


You can receive an application at the following locations:

Hubert Humphrey Building
4923 Hohman Avenue
Hammond, IN  46320

and

Hammond Housing Authority Main Office
1402 173rd Street
Hammond, IN  46324


Applications will be accepted Monday through Friday (excluding holidays)
during normal business hours:   

8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
and
1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. 

If you are unable to come to one of the above locations, please
call (219) 989-3265, extension 311 to request an application be mailed to you.



Columbia Center


84 duplexes ranging from 1 bedrooms to 3 bedrooms.

Rent is based on 30% of a household's monthly income.
Residents pay for their own gas bill, a monthly gas allowance is deducted from the gross rent formula.
Hammond Housing pays for the water and electric.  The electric is on a master meter, however, each apartment has an electric meter.  Depending on the bedroom size, each apartment is given an electric consumption allowance.  If the electricity used is over the allowance, residents are billed for the excess electric used.
HHA provides weekly lawn service and monthly trimming (seasonal).   Yard equipment is available from the Maintenance Department for residents to use if needed.
Residents can participate in the Resident Organization Group.
Off duty police officers are employed by the Housing Authority for the Community Policing.
Police Officers live on-site for added security.
Child immunization and the WIC Program through the Mom, Kids & Co. is available on-site.

Available for the children during the week is transportation to the local Boys & Girls Club. 


Turner Park

80 townhouses ranging from 2 bedrooms to 4 bedrooms.

Rent is based on 30% of a household's monthly income.
Residents pay for their own gas/electric and a monthly allowance is deducted from the gross rent formula.
Hammond Housing pays for the water. 
HHA provides weekly lawn service and monthly trimming (seasonal).   Yard equipment is available from the Maintenance Department for residents to use if needed.
Residents can participate in the Resident Organization Group.
Off duty police officers are employed by the Housing Authority for the Community Policing.
Police Officers live on-site for added security.

Hubert Humphrey High-Rise Building

Rent is based on 30% of a household's monthly income.
All utilities are included.
Coin-operated laundry facilities are available on each floor for residents use.
Residents can participate in the Resident Organization Group.
Off duty police officers are employed by the Housing Authority for the Community Policing.
