An HQS (Housing Quality Standards) Inspection
is required by HUD in administering the Housing Choice Voucher Program.
The Housing Authority is required to determine whether units selected by voucher holders meet HQS standards.
The purpose of the HQS inspection is to ensure that federal dollars are not spent on inadequate housing
(i.e., housing that is not decent, safe, and sanitary).
Once approved for
program participation, units must be reinspected at least once annually while the tenant remains in occupancy.
