Housing Choice Voucher Program Overview
The Hammond Housing Authority's Housing Choice Voucher Program
(formerly known as Section 8) administers over 700 vouchers in the Hammond, Whiting, Griffith, and Highland area.
In September, 2006, and September 2009, the application process was opened. Because of the
need to assist low-income families, the wait can be lengthy before eligible families are selected from the waiting list.
All
families selected from the waiting list must be income eligible. All family members 18 years of age and older must pass
a criminal background check. Other screening criteria may also apply.
If
you need additional information, please contact the Housing Choice Voucher Department at the number provided below.
Billing
Incoming Portability
Hammond Housing Authority is billing, not absorbing, incoming portable vouchers. (All incoming
portable clients must find a unit in the City of Hammond only.)
Outgoing Portability
In order to transfer to another Housing Authority, the payment standard (for the eligible bedroom
size) must be equal or less than the Hammond Housing Authority's payment standard effective at that time.
For current applicants:
Changes must be reported IN WRITING within ten (10) days of the change. Changes will
not be accepted via fax or e-mail!
