Columbia Center
The Hammond Housing
Authority, along with its partners, Hammond Elderly Housing and Herman & Kittle Properties, Inc., broke ground on January
11, 2007 on the first phase of the revitalization of Columbia Center. The first project involves the demolition of 13
buildings (45 units) to make way for a 4 story, 80-unit senior building. Completion of the new building is scheduled
for January 2008.
A tax credit application was submitted in March 2007
for Phase II of our revitalization program. This project will involve the demolition of 17 buildings (89) units to make
way for 68 new townhouse units.
Turner Park
The Hubert Humphrey Building has currently undergone a remodel. All 119 units received new
kitchen cabinets, floor tile, blinds and heating controls as well as a complete repainting. Common areas and offices were
also redecorated. The project was complete in the summer of 2007.
Re-roofing
of the townhouses is scheduled to start in the spring of 2007. Four or five buildings will be done each year until
all are completed.
